A Festive Dinner With a Musical Flourish!
On Tuesday 6th December 2016, the Master and Wardens were joined by The Worshipful Company of Innholders’ Freemen and their guests for the annual William Austin and Florence Balls Dinner.
Upon arrival guests were greeted at the hall by the Master and Wardens with a glass of the Quincentennial Champagne Pol Roger before enjoying a three course culinary delight crafted by Herbert Berger and his masterful team… as always the food was outstanding!
The first course was a Lobster Terrine with Pickled Jerusalem Artichokes & Wild Mushrooms and a Lobster & Balsamic Vinaigrette, accompanied by a St Aubin 1er Cru “Les Frionnes” 2010. The guests then enjoyed Fillet of Lamb with a Chorizo & Rosemary Jus, Flageolet Bean Puree & Green Beans and Boulanger Potato, accompanied by a Post Scriptum de Chryseai 2007. Served for dessert was a Brandy Snap with Chestnut Ice Cream, Caramelised Quince and Chocolate Sauce & Rum Anglaise, accompanied by one of my personal favourites - Vidal Ice Wine! This was then followed by Coffee & Petit Fours accompanied by a Taylor’s 1994 Port to finish.
As is customary, Christmas Carols had to be sung! Unfortunately, the choir lined up were unable to make the occasion with little warning. So, with some last-minute preparation from Assistant Clerk Gillian Croxford, the Revd Canon Bill Christianson and Herbert Berger's team stepped up to lead the hall (accompanied by pianist Nicholas Durcan) with their very own musical flourish! There was an entrée of ‘Good King Wenceslas’ followed by the grand finale of a very well participated ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’.
A festive celebration enjoyed by all!
