The Springboard Charity
The Springboard Charity helps young people achieve their potential and nurtures unemployed people of any age into work. It helps alleviate poverty by supporting disadvantaged and underprivileged people into sustainable employment within hospitality, leisure and tourism.
Springboard’s work encourages, motivates, builds confidence, develops the skills required and mentors our beneficiaries to succeed in a career within hospitality, leisure and tourism. The vital work of this Charity directly helps young people, safeguarding their future employment and giving back to an industry that provides enjoyment to so many.

Springboard equips people with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to achieve their potential.
The Worshipful Company of Innholders charities have supported Springboard for over 20 years in order to re-affirm our industry roots.
Springboard’s KickStart programmes are open to school and college leavers (16+) who are undecided on their career plans and is designed to help them in their career decision making.
It is hard for young people to gain a foothold on the career ladder. KickStart (previously known as Summer School) has a proven track record in providing a structured transition from full time education into employment, apprenticeships and further or higher education within the field of hospitality, leisure or tourism.
The programme allows businesses an opportunity to see, first hand, the talent that is out there as well as providing a platform for students to gain real insight into the wealth of opportunities they have on offer.
For a participant leaving education this 3 week model over the summer months provides an excellent transition into the world of work through:
- Interviews – directly with the business
- Pre-placement training including information, advice and guidance, work tasters and recognised certified short courses
- Two week work placement which follows the quality standard INSPIRE
- Mentoring support from the Springboard regional team – throughout the programme
Beginning in London 1999 this programme has evolved and for 2016 it is now present in 7 cities: Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, and Manchester..
Since its inception this programme has seen young people enter their first opportunity and now fulfil a career within the industry.
Innholders' Charitable Foundation Grant
The Innholders' charities have supported the Kickstart Programme for the past 5 years. In order to gain a grant from us the charity submits a proposal for their project to the Patronage Committee, this is discussed by the committee members and any concerns are addressed before being put to the Court. The proposal is then distributed to the Court and approval sought.
For this particular project, a grant of £5,000 per annum was approved for three years, after each year an evaluation report is submitted to the Patronage Committee before the next grant is approved for payment. At the end of the three year period, another three year project was submitted, this is the last payment due under this contract.
