Wine Recommendations from Lidl

In fact, their wines are purchased by Richard Bampfield MW, who not only buys for them, but also produces interesting notes and provides a rating for each of the wines on offer. The downside is that one needs to keep an eye on what is being offered and so it is well worth logging on to their website to receive details of their weekly offers.

Last year I bought some of their Canadian Ice Wine, which the Wine Committee looked at before approving the purchase and I am pleased to say the wine was enjoyed at several dinners. At £15 for 50 cl bottle, I think it is a bargain. So look out for it!

Another wine I have much enjoyed for every day drinking is their Baturrica Gran Reserva Tarragona. It is a blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon and the wine presently on offer is the 2011 vintage, so it has 5+ years bottle age, which is unusual for a wine that costs you only £4.99.

They often have Côtes-du-Rhône and a selection of excellent wines from around the world.

Good hunting!
