Visit to Springboard's London Graduation Ceremony of their KickStart Programme
The Company has been supporting Springboard’s Kickstart programme for a while and I was pleased to attend their recent 2016 graduation evening. Springboard has a focus on the young and the hospitality sector and their KickStart Programme offers those leaving or about to leave school a programme which includes a two week work placement with a number of well known names in the hotel and leisure sector. This year 53 candidates completed the programme and the graduation evening is an opportunity to receive well-earned recognition with family and friends.
If meeting the Master of a Livery Company might have phased some of them, it didn’t show! And I was impressed by the confidence the scheme has given those who took part.
A big challenge for the hospitality sector is getting people to see the career opportunities it offers – over and above waiting tables or pulling pints on a temporary basis. KickStart is delivering with 95% of those who take part in the programme finding jobs in the sector or going on to further education in hospitality.
The final words should go to one of their 2014 graduates
if it was not for KickStart I would still be in my room playing computer games and doing nothing with my life
He got an opening to start cooking with Delaware North at Wembley and has recently been snapped up to progress as a chef at the Shangri-La Hotel in the Shard.
