Charity Committee awards £17,500 to small charities
The Charity Committee met in December 2019 to go through applications from charities for funding. The Committee would like to see more applications in support of the elderly but were delighted overall at the quantity and quality of the applications. After discussion it agreed to make the following awards, which have been approved by Court:
Merry Opera Company £2,000
Project based at the Spa School (for pupils who have autistic spectrum conditions), Bermondsey. To help autistic children aged between 11 and 19 learn opera music with the aim of getting them to sing a chorus by heart.
Youth on the Move £2,000
Project based in Hackney and Haringey. Towards Play Power, an annual stage showcase targeting 200 socially isolated and economically disadvantaged young women aged 11-16.
The Gifted Organisation £2,000
Project based in the Hertfordshire area. To support the Caring for Young Women in Care programme that supports and empowers young women aged 14-25 who are living in care or leaving care.
For Jimmy £2,000
Project based in Lewisham. Towards the Young Citizens Programme working with young people aged 14 to 18 supporting them to recognise and develop their leadership skills through the delivery of a social action project.
The North London Foodbank £2,000
Project based in North London. Towards a new Holiday Fun playscheme which would provide nutritious breakfasts and lunches, with activities and trips, for deprived children who are hungry and bored during the school holidays.
Community Activities Project Ealing £2,000
Project based in Acton. To support the Kitchen@239 project which will develop formal training opportunities within the existing CAPE recovery point café where individuals with serious and long-term mental health needs are supported in the community.
Hotline Meals Service £5,000
Project based in Hackney. A new service Magnanimous Meals that will provide 1,000 meals to 25 frail elderly people, to fill both their physical and emotional needs and improve their overall health.
Clothing Solutions £500
Project based in Bradford West Yorkshire which provides a unique service adapting and designing bespoke clothing for disabled people to enhance their quality of life.
